Liber May, Artist Statement.

In my eyes, art should reformulate and rearrange the rules of the existing order. It should be a space with social and human dimensions, as an universal and popular means of transfusion and bridging geographic and cultural differences.

As someone who was born and raised in Havana, Cuba of the mid-seventies, and currently living and working in tel-Aviv, Israel, I’ve experienced many ambitious national projects, all in constant tension between the individual and the collective; the private and the regime.

On my artistic field, the players have multiple and fluid identities. By drawing, photography, sculpture, performance and installation, my works encompass found objects, draw images from the popular culture, the history of art and the world of sport; they investigate the condition of the subject and its relations with social mechanisms, and the status of the art-object under the current economic system.
